TOP FIVE
March Holidays
You Missed, But I Celebrated

By Dan Mahoney

For the month of March, Dan regaled us with lists about leprechauns, women's history, March Madness, and the stimulus package, and we loved him for it. As his final entry, Mr. March delivers a truly Mahoney-styled list. Bizarre. Funny. And Marchalicious.

1. March 5th was Multiple Personalities Day.
We tried to have an ice cream party, but couldn't agree on chocolate, vanilla, or swirl. SWIRL WILL MAKE US ALL HAPPY-- It's half and half! - I don't want ANY chocolate, I want vanilla, why can't we get both, SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP

2. Buzzard Day (March 8th).
I was hanging out with a gaggle of them for the holiday, which coincidentally was also the Daylight Savings Time day, but just try explaining THAT concept to a bunch of turkey vultures

3. March 16th was Everything You Do Is Right Day.
I didn't do anything.

4. March 18th - Birthday of Sparky, the Fire Dog, the official mascot of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
I threw him a party but he freaked out over the birthday candles. Maybe I shouldn't have gotten the 'joke' ones anyway.

5. March 21st Children's Poetry Day.
I spent hours going through Highlights magazines, entering every contest I could find as "Terry, Aged 8, Massachusetts" My winning entry:
My mommy gave me medicine/ for when i'm feeling ill/ said it was an elixir/ which i couldnt even spell/ i asked my daddy what it meant/ this elixir so she calls/ he said a magic potion/ from the CVS in the mall/ it tasted kinda gooey/ and gross and tart and slick/ but my sore throat went kablooey/ guess what- I'm no longer sick!
I won a year of Highlights with that!!!!

Tune in next week for a new list from a new writer, Richard Tatum (Mr. April)!
